Job Summary: The Grant Writer (“GW”) conducts prospect research, organizes, writes and submits quality private funding grant proposals that align with Virginia Garcia’s strategic program goals. The GW is a member of the Foundation Relations and Grants Team (“FRGT”).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•Lead prospect research to identify potential private foundation funding opportunities that align with Virginia Garcia’s strategic plan and fundraising goals.
•Write, assemble and submit quality grant proposals, letters, applications and other written materials that respond to funder requirements, priorities and deadlines.
•Meet all submission deadlines on or before due dates as outlined on the grant proposal schedule (GPS).
•Support the FRGT in the development of grant revenue projections and proposal calendars and timelines.
•Input grant deadlines and other relevant grant information into Donor Perfect Online (DPO) database in alignment with the GPS; add proposal due dates to FRGT’s calendars.
•Maintain electronic and paper filing systems for grant proposals, guidelines and supporting proposal data.
•As requested, support the FRO in the development of foundation reports.
•Attend funder meetings as requested; participate in webinars and trainings as required.
•Stay current on all required Virginia Garcia training.
•With Foundation team, assist with planning and executing events.
•This position requires occasional night and weekend work.
•Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
•Handle protected health information in a manner consistent with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

HIPAA Requirements:

The Grant Writer has access to PHI in order to perform his/her job duties. The Grant Writer also handles PHI for disclosures to outside entities. Applying the minimum necessary standard of HIPAA, the designated record sets to which this employee will have access include: all sections of the medical record, patient demographic information in the practice management system, and incoming records, reports, results, consultations, etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

•Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with ability to research and compile data on population needs, program models and prospective funding sources.
•Highly proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
•Ability to incorporate complex ideas into clear and concise written products.
•Self-starter with high level of organizational skills, and ability to independently organize and prioritize workload, manage multiple deadlines and meet grant proposal goals.
•Commitment and alignment to Virginia Garcia’s mission, vision, and values.

Education and Experience Required:

•Bachelor’s degree required.
•Two to four years grant writing or equivalent experience required.
•Experience with organizations that provide health care and/or address the social determinants of health is preferred.
