Job Summary:

This position reports directly to the Grants Officer (GO) of the Virginia Garcia Memorial Foundation (VGMF) and is an integral part of the Foundation Relations and Grants Team (FRGT) and the foundation-wide fundraising team. Write, assemble and submit clear and complete grant proposals, letters, applications and other written materials that respond to funder requirements, priorities and deadlines. Input grant deadlines and other relevant grant information into Donor Perfect Online (DPO) database.

The Grant Writer, under the direction of the Grants Officer and in partnership with the Foundation Relations Officer (FRO) is responsible for securing grant funding by developing comprehensive, well-written applications that match funder guidelines and align with Virginia Garcia’s strategic program goals.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Ability to incorporate complex ideas into clear and concise written products.

Self-starter with high level of organizational skills, and ability to independently organize and prioritize workload, manage multiple deadlines and meet grant proposal goals.

Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with ability to research and compile data on population needs, program models and prospective funding sources.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience).
PREFERENCE given to those who demonstrate proven grant writing skills. Experience with organizations that provide health care and/or address the social determinants of health is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Support the FRGT in identifying foundation, corporate and government funding opportunities that align with Virginia Garcia’s program priorities.

Meet all submission deadlines according to the grant proposal schedule; and support the FRGT in the development and update of the schedule.

Coordinate the development of the annual submission to HRSA for the Center’s Section 330 (FQHC) federal operating grant.

Serve as DPO back-up providing occasional support for entering data and generating reports on gifts, volunteers and donors.

Maintain grant filing system of proposals, guidelines, supporting data and correspondence with funders.

Collect and maintain up-to-date information on the population in VG’s service area, including demographics, unmet needs, health disparities, barriers to care and programs that address them for use in proposals and other materials.

Maintain information on VG services including patient demographics, services provided, successes and challenges; and serve as resource to staff for this information.

As needed, support the FRO in the development of foundation reports.

With VGMF team, assist with planning and executing events.

This position requires occasional night and weekend work.

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

HIPAA Requirements:

The grant writer has access to PHI in order to perform his/her job duties. The grant writer also handles PHI for disclosures to outside entities. Applying the minimum necessary standard of HIPAA, the designated record sets to which this employee will have access include: all sections of the medical record, patient demographic information in the practice management system, and incoming records, reports, results, consultations, etc.
